Privacy Policy

Overview

TramEasy is a Melbourne tram tracking app, operated by TramEasy. We do not require an account, we do not sell data, and we do not run third-party advertising. We use a privacy-friendly, cookie-free analytics tool on our website to count visits (see Website analytics below); it is not used in the installed app.

Location data

The app requests your device's GPS location to show your position on the map and to display nearby tram arrival times. Location data:

• Is used only on your device to centre the map and filter nearby stops
• Is never transmitted to our servers
• Is never stored or shared with third parties

You can deny or revoke location permission at any time in your device settings. The app remains functional without it.

Server logs

When you use TramEasy, your device makes requests to our server. Our server temporarily logs standard access information including your IP address, the time of the request, and which page or API endpoint was requested. These logs:

• Are used only for diagnosing technical issues and detecting abuse
• Are not linked to any personal identity
• Are not shared with third parties
• Are retained for up to 30 days and then automatically deleted

Feedback and bug reports

If you choose to send a bug report through the app, we receive:

• The text you write and the category you select
• Basic context about what you were viewing — the stop, tram, or area of the map on screen (not your GPS location), plus your app version and device/browser type
• A random, anonymous session identifier, so we can match the report to the app's diagnostic logs and reproduce the problem

This information is used only to diagnose and fix problems, is not linked to any personal identity, and is not shared with third parties. Please don't include personal information in the text of a report.

Diagnostics

To find and fix bugs, the app records anonymous diagnostic events — such as app start/stop, network request timing and errors, and which stop panels were opened — tagged with the random session identifier described above and your device/browser type. These diagnostics:

• Contain no account or identity information (there is no account)
• Do not include your GPS location
• Are used only for diagnosing technical issues
• Are not shared with third parties and are retained for up to 30 days, then automatically deleted

Website analytics

On our website (trameasy.com) we use Umami, a privacy-friendly analytics tool, to understand how many people visit and roughly where they are. Umami:

• Uses no cookies and does not track you across other websites
• Collects only aggregated, anonymous data — visit counts, pages viewed, referring site, device/browser type, and an approximate location (city/country) derived from your IP address
• Does not store your IP address or use it to identify you
• Is not used in the installed mobile app — only on the website

Tram data

Real-time tram information is sourced from TramTracker (Yarra Trams) and PTV GTFS (Public Transport Victoria). TramEasy is not affiliated with or endorsed by Yarra Trams, Public Transport Victoria, or the Victorian Government.

Third-party services

The app uses the following third-party services:

• OpenStreetMap / Leaflet — map tiles. Subject to the OpenStreetMap privacy policy.
• Cloudflare — DNS, traffic routing, and DDoS protection. Subject to the Cloudflare privacy policy.
• Umami — privacy-friendly, cookie-free website analytics (website only; see Website analytics above). Subject to the Umami privacy policy.

Children

TramEasy is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page.
